A kiss on the hand may be quite continental, but diamonds are a girls best friend, quips the infamous song. This statement still holds true for a lot of women across the world. Not only are diamonds timeless and eternally beautiful but also precious and exquisite in every way. Until the last twenty or so years ago it was all about white diamonds but the availability of other coloured diamonds has made jewellery-lovers stop and take notice. The new kid on the block that is making heads turn all around is the range of pink diamonds that are now available in renowned jewellery stores.

Lovely pink diamonds in hues ranging from deep orange pink, intense pink, pinkish purple, vivid pink, salmon pink, rose pink, dark pink are on sale online and in most of the prominent jewellery stores in the world. The fact remains that every stone has its own colour and brilliance, so it is a matter of individualistic preference when it comes to your choice of pink diamond shades. Pink diamonds are very rare and hence cost much more than its same quality and carat equivalent white diamond. They are also most sought after. Most jewellers have never seen or held a natural pink diamond in their hands, making this stone one of the most exclusive stones in the market.

Most of the natural pink diamonds are mined in Africa, Western Australia and Brazil as well as India to a small extent. The finest pink diamond that was recently identified is the Steinmetz Pink diamond. Discovered in a mine situated in southern Africa, this particular stone is known to be the largest Fancy Vivid Pink diamond in the world. Graded internally flawless, it weighs 59.60 carats. Another noteworthy stone is the Darya-i-Nur, also known as the Sea of Light. It is the largest known pink diamond. This gorgeous jewel is close to 175 carats and is rose coloured. The largest pink diamond to be offered at auction has been 28.03 carat and was valued at least $7,000,000 at the Sothebys Auction.

Pink diamonds are greatly admired for their colour reference and considered the most exclusive engagement ring stone by the affluent and elite. So, if you are one of those who love to make an impression, nothing says it more clearly than gifting or wearing a natural pink diamond. It is one of those rare stones that turn your perception of them from precious into priceless in a matter of seconds.
